Twenty-five persons were remanded on Sunday from Devinuwara

Twenty-five persons were remanded on Sunday in connection with clashes that broke out during a protest march from Devinuwara, calling on Ranil Wickremesinghe to step down from the party leadership.

The suspects were produced before Matara Additional Magistrate Manjula Karunaratne today. The Magistrate had also ordered that the suspects be produced in an identification parade on Monday. Police say that fourteen supporters of UNP Parliamentarian Mangala Samaraweera had turned themselves over via two lawyers.

Police added that a further ten supporters of MP Mangala Samaraweera were arrested.
