With only five days to go for the provincial council polls, the election stage is heating up.
Let us take a look at some of the views being expressed on the election campaign stage.
Rohitha Abeygunawardena, Project Minister - Ports and Highways stated:
“We get the dogs to bark and to protect the house. There are dogs who have a loud bark. Wickremesinghe used to have dogs that barked out loud. All of them have crossed over. Now Wickremesinghe has fox cubs that were mistakenly brought in as puppies. All they can do is howl.”
JVP Southern Provincial Councillor Nalin Hewage said:
“All the elephants are with the government today. All the powerful elephants who were in the United National Party are now with the government. Recently, another elephant crossed over. In the recent past this elephant spoke of a massive rock port. He got 250 million in his hands and now the rock is forgotten. As if the elephants weren't enough, tigers were also taken in. There is Pillayan and Karuna Amman. K.P. Is also there. The tigers weren't enough so there are chickens as well. Thondaman's chicken is also in this mix. There are also foxes like Weerawansa and Champika. Elephants, tigers, foxes and bears are all in this mix together. The country is not being built up, but they are and we on the other hand are being sidelined.”
Johan Fernando UPFA Candidate-North Western PC stated,
“They say that we are providing three hundred thousand rupees for sarees. Apparently we are holding a saree dansalaas well. The people have rejected all of them. Because the people have rejected them, they get on stages and look for my age. Two weeks ago they said I was 22. A week ago they said I was 20. Three days ago they said I was 10. Within another week or two they may reduce my age from 15 to ten.”
Attorney-at-Law Dayasiri Jayasekera, UPFA Candidate - Northwestern PC said,
“There are no sports grounds for some of the talented sportsmen and women in the Northwestern Province. Sometimes they don’t have the equipment necessary to participate in a sport. They still don’t have the teachers and the coaches they need to excel in sport. They do not have sponsors to provide them with the facilities they need. They have massive problems when participating in sport and do so  of (with) their own effort."
Mahindananda Aluthgamage Minister of Sports noted,
“We have made plans to build stadiums in all eight  provinces in the country. In the North West they are yet to identify a stadium for us. One group says that they will build one while another group says that they will build another one. This is a tug-of-war with no results. I am very happy that Dayasiri Jayasekera our future chief minister is taking the initiative on this. .
Minister of Sugar Industries Lakshman Seneviratne said,
“On the 22nd,  no matter what anyone says, Johan Fernando will be Chief Minister.  They speak about Minister Johnston Fernando's Dansalas, but   Minister Johnston fed the people even when he was  campaigning.
Att.-at-Law Athula Wijeysinghe UPFA Candidate - North Western PC stated:
“At the beginning some people started from the skies. They started their scale at a high pitch. Now it is descending gradually, and it is close to going underground. We started from zero. We are moving forward as a our scale is ascending. His Excellency the President gave the proper response. At that meeting he addressed us as the 37 Chief Ministers. All will be revealed on the morning of the 22nd
